COLLEGE NIGHT:

                Luzerne County Community College is sponsoring a College Night this Thursday, October 18, on their Main campus from 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. Over 100 colleges, universities, hospitals and armed forces programs from across the state and country have been invited to participate.

 

HEALTH SCIENCES CAREER DAY:

                Misericordia University is hosting the 8th annual “Health Sciences Career Day” on Monday, November 5th on their campus in the Banks Student Center. Discuss program highlights and expectations in the following disciplines; Medical Imaging, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech/Language Pathology. Presentations will include “Employment Trends in Health Professions” and “Spinal Cord Injury…A Day in the Life of…” how each of the five professions deal with traumatic injury. Interested students are asked to call the Misericordia University Admissions Office at 674-6463 no later than October 31st.   

 

INFORMATION NIGHT FOR THE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMS:

                Luzerne County Community College is presenting an Information Night for the Technology Programs. Materials and presentations will be available  for the following careers; Architecture, Automotive, Computer Drafting/Design, Cyber Security, Nuclear Engineering, Automated Manufacturing, Motorsports, Computer Numerical Control, Computer Systems Technology, Interior Design, Kitchen & Bath Design, Nanofabrication, Electronics, Building Maintenance, Electrical Construction and Plumbing/Heating & Air Conditioning. The program will be held on Thursday, November 15th from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. on their campus in Building 2 and the Advanced Technology Center.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS:

                PENNSYLVANIA ELKS STATE ASSOCIATION:

                The Elks National Foundation of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is presently accepting applications for the 2008-2009 academic year scholarship/leadership “Most Valuable Student “program. The foundation provides more than $2,000,000 annually in funds for secondary education. In addition to many national awards the Pennsylvania Elks State Association provides one-time grants of $1,200 to 62 Pennsylvania students each year. Applications are available at elks.org or by contacting your local Elks lodge office. To find the nearest Elks lodge go to elks.org/lodges and enter the first three digits of your zip code. All applications must be on file no later than January 11. It is the goal of the Elks to have at least one application submitted from each high school within Pennsylvania.

 

            2008 BURGER KING SCHOLARS PROGRAM:

                The Have It Your Way Foundation sponsors the 2008 Burger King Scholars Program. Up to 700 scholarships are available. Annual prizes of $1,000 are awarded to high school seniors that are eligible. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher, work an average of 15 hours per week for 40 weeks (employment at Burger King is not required), be actively involved in community service activities and demonstrate financial need. Completed applications must be postmarked by February 15th.

 

                UNITED STEELWORKERS HUGH CARCELLA SCHOLARSHIP:

                United Steelworkers Hugh Carcella scholarships are available to sons and daughters of members of the United Steelworkers District 10 local union, or the son or daughter of a disabled, retired or deceased member of the union that was in good standing at the time of retirement, disability or death. Applications are available at the union hall and completed applications must be postmarked by March 15th.
