THE 2008 PENNSYLVANIA GOVERNOR’S SCHOOLS OF EXCELLENCE:

Following are the school names, application deadlines and locations of the eight Pennsylvania Governor’s Schools of Excellence (PGSE) for the summer of 2008. These unique sessions give students the opportunity to learn about future careers from the experts in the field and will provide skills to define and succeed in future careers.

SUMMER 2008 EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES:

• Cornell University – College courses for talented high school students – Cornell University offers one, three, four and six-week sessions between June and August. Visit summercollege.cornell.edu.

• Savannah College of Art and Design – Five-week residential program in Savannah, Georgia. Each high school student enrolls in two college level classes. Topics include animation, digital photography, drawing, fashion, furniture design and sequential art. Visit scad.edu/summer.

• Carnegie Mellon University – Six week program that allows academically talented high school students the opportunity to choose two college courses in architecture, art, design, drama, music, biology, calculus, chemistry, computer science, engineering ,history, mathematics, philosophy, physics or writing areas.
