Representatives from the
admissions office of the following schools will be at the table outside the

FINANCIAL AID NIGHT FOR HIGHER EDUCATION:
A Financial Aid Night for Higher Education will be
held in the Scranton campus auditorium on Tuesday, December 11th at
7:00 P.M. Dr. Thomas O’Donnell, III, D.Ed., Regional Director of the
Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) will give a
presentation on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Topics to
be covered are the FAFSA form with insight to its completion and updates,
loans, grant eligibility, the role of PHEAA and a question and answer period.
All present high school seniors, going on to any form of education after
graduation, are required to file the FAFSA form after January 1st to
be considered for financial aid.
SCHOLARSHIPS:
- College of Notre Dame of Maryland – announces the
30th Annual Art Scholarship Competition for young women that
are presently juniors or seniors in high school. For additional
information about the school, the art department or the scholarship please
call 1-800-435-0200 or visit ndm.edu.
- The American Legion High School Oratorical
Scholarship Program – the contest has been held by The American Legion for
more than 70 years. The program helps the student develop a deeper
knowledge of the Constitution of the United States, leadership qualities
and to think and speak clearly and intelligently. Scholarship awards range
from $1,500 to $18,000. For dates, sites, and deadline information contact
a local American Legion Post or visit legion.org.
- Rider University announces its 28th
Annual High School Writing Contest – the categories are; write an essay on
a topic of your choice or a short fiction story, the
length for either one can be no more than five double-spaced typed pages
and the other option is to write a poem of no more than 50 lines. Entries
must be mailed to the Rider University English Department no later than
December 14th.
- McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship –
the scholarship is available to all high seniors who have demonstrated
entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating their own business while in
high school. The scholarship is not based on academic achievement or
financial need. Awards are based solely on demonstration of entrepreneurial
spirit. 100 scholarships will be awarded with the top award being $40,000
divided over four years. Interested students can obtain more information
in the guidance office. The deadline is January 15th.
- The Gallery Collection is proud to announce one
of the most exciting events in their company’s near eighty year history.
It is a $10,000 cash scholarship to be given to the winning student in
their first annual national competition to Create a Greeting Card.
Students are asked to create a holiday card, birthday card or all-occasion
greeting card. Official rules may be obtained by visiting
gallerycollection.com. The submission deadline is January 15th.
