Congratulations to Alexander Zygmunt. Rev. Scott R. Pilarz, S.J., The University of Scranton President, has offered Alex a Presidential Scholarship. This four-year, full-tuition scholarship is the highest academic award at the University and will be offered to only 32 of the more than 7,200 students who applied for admission to the Class of 2012. The Presidential Scholarship is reserved for individuals of demonstrated academic brilliance and ambition who are committed to civic involvement and the values of a Catholic and Jesuit liberal arts education.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS:

                DUPONT HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION:

                The Dupont High School Alumni Association is proud to announce the availability of scholarships (minimum $1,000) to qualifying high school seniors. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of scholastic ability, good character references, school and community service, an essay and proof of being a direct descendant of a Dupont High School attendee. Applications are available from the Dupont High School Alumni Association and may be obtained by writing to:

                PENNSYLVANIA LEAGUE OF CITIES & MUNICIPALITIES:

                The Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities is the sponsor for the 25th Annual High School Senior Essay Scholarship. Two scholarships will be awarded: First place - $2,000/Second place $1,000. This year’s essay theme is: “Gettysburg – Lessons in Strength, Unity and Leadership.” Participants are asked to reflect on the theme by addressing a municipal challenge which involved the exercise of the principles of strength, unity and leadership. Each school can submit only one application into the competition. Interested students may pick up additional information and an application in the guidance office. Completed applications and essays must be submitted to the guidance office no later than April 11th.

 

                JAMES F. SWIFT SCHOLARSHIP:

                Mr. James F. Swift established a scholarship fund that will assist high school seniors who demonstrate strong academic achievement, citizenship and service to others and, who, without financial assistance, may not have the means to attend and graduate from college. For 2008, up to 20 scholarships of $4,000 each, renewable for up to three additional years, will be awarded to students attending a high school in Lackawanna County. Approximately 15 of the 20 scholarships will be awarded to students that will be a freshman attending Baptist Bible College, Johnson College, Keystone College, Lackawanna College, Marywood University, Penn State - Worthington/Scranton, or The University of Scranton in the fall. Applications are available at the Scranton Area Foundation’s web site, safdn.org. Questions about the scholarship may be directed to Scholarship Management Services at 507-931-1682, ask for the James F. Swift Program Manager. Completed applications must be postmarked no later than May 1st. Recipients will be notified by the end of June.
