OPEN HOUSES:

Most colleges and universities conduct one or more fall open house programs for prospective students and their families. Please check with the admissions office of the schools you are considering to schedule a visit. If the open house dates are not acceptable, possibly an individual appointment can be arranged. Some schools waive the application fee for students that visit their campus and many schools either waive or reduce the fee for those that apply online.

PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD:

The Prudential Spirit of Community Award was created in 1995 to recognize students who have demonstrated exemplary community service. These prestigious awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, are presented annually on the state and national level. Each high school can submit one application into the competition. State judges will select the top volunteer in each state. The state honorees receive $1,000, engraved silver medallions and an all-expense paid trip with a parent to Washington, D.C. in May for recognition events, sightseeing tours, a Congressional reception on Capitol Hill along with the opportunity to compete for one of ten additional $5,000 awards. National honorees will also receive $5,000 grants from the Prudential Foundation for nonprofit charitable organizations of their choice. Interested students are asked to visit prudential.com/spirit or call toll-free1-877-525-8491. Completed applications must be returned to the guidance office no later than October 31st.

It is designed to help students search for college and universities in Pennsylvania that meet specific needs and interests, take multimedia campus tours, communicate with schools via e-mail and submit applications online. A financial aid estimate is provided to help students and their families estimate the amount of aid they can expect to receive and a search engine conducts a scholarship search. The website is located at educationplanner.org. For more information you may call toll-free 1-866-800-9220.
